Traditionally, it was almost taboo for Engineering projects to practice Agile methodology as it was considered a structureless practice with such a large degree of unpredictability. With Agile engineering, however, teams can quickly iterate, test, and gather feedback on product designs. They are able to translate large chunks of work into manageable tasks, resulting in faster and more accurate product development and project delivery. In this talk, it will be considered how agile techniques can be applied to engineering projects to achieve success beyond traditional approaches.

SES Lecture—Speaking of Diversity in Engineering -
Diversity in Engineering is an ongoing commitment which requires ongoing attention.
Historically, engineering and control systems have had a rather homogeneous set of participation, which is caused by a variety of factors ranging from bias to long held social norms and company and government policies which do not to support broader participation in the workforce. Additionally, when achievements are experienced by more diverse members, they are often overlooked or diminished which contribute to high dropout rates.
By failing to improve inclusion, the damages and lost opportunities lie not just with those who are not included, but with the industry as a whole. A more diverse cast offers a wider array of experiences and knowledge known to lead to better solutions. To improve this, broad changes are necessary from how we view and support less traditional candidates to how employers and governments support workers and families.
Karen White has spent more than two decades in the management of control systems for large experimental physics facilities and is currently the Control Systems Section Head for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and is active in organizing international accelerator control system collaborations and conferences.
Karen holds an MS in Computer Science from Old Dominion University, and an ME in Engineering Management from George Washington University. In addition to her leadership roles, she is committed to improving diversity and inclusion in science and engineering.

Troubleshooting is as much an art as a science. Darryl Lee will introduce you to some of the issues and pitfalls which you may encounter and have you considering the correct frame of mind to approach the problem.
Darryl Lee is a seasoned electrician and electronics technician with a Red Seal and several decades of experience ranging from the Canadian Armed Forces to a manufacturing plant.
Over the course of this experience he has diagnosed and corrected issues with systems ranging from the electrical to the pneumatic. In his "spare" time he likes to build and operate amateur radio equipment.
